first amendment rights v abortion

Nat Hentoff has been writing on first amendment rights for a long time. He sees conversation on abortion as a first amendment issue more than anything else. The link points to rather lengthy articles. Nat Hentoff is nothing short of a raving liberal except on the pro-choice issue.

The movement of folks against abortion has primarily been driven by people of evangelical pursuations. They have been demanding law to be changed to make abortion illegal. Youtube has a video that shows how much thought has actually been given to the legal position: 'What should be the punishment for the mother?'

This might indicate why it might be better to settle discussions of morality more in the social sphere than in the political sphere.
